Friday, 1 August at the Port Elizabeth Opera House is where you need to be for a charity benefit concert entitled “THUMBS UP! No End to Caring” brought to you by Algoa FM in association with Magnetic Storm. Directed by Mandy Gurr- Snyman with Lindi Doubell as Assistant Director and Garth Tavares as Vocal & Music Director, this one-night-only event will feature the finest names in the entertainment industry such as Strictly Come Dancing’s Ian von Memerty and South Africa’s musical theatre Diva Divine, Aviva Pelham, who hails from Cape Town.
The event will be in aid of raising 100% of the profits to two outstanding charities.
Firstly, the Motor Neurone Disease Association whose mission statement is "To provide and promote the best possible support for people living with M.N.D, their families and carers; and to raise public awareness". Mandy herself was diagnosed in 1998 with a Motor Neurone Disease called Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a terminal neuro-muscular illness that has left her wheel-chair bound.
Affiliated to the M.N.D.A is our second charity - the St. Francis Hospice, who's professionally trained and caring Sisters provide home-based palliative care for the terminally ill and their families voluntarily. Neither of these charities receive any government funding.
With Carol-Anne Kelleher and Roy Williams from Algoa FM as our M.C's plus around 20 top entertainers gathering on the night in an all star variety style show with the And All That… Jazz Band, as well as the Palm Court Quartet, audiences are guaranteed to be thoroughly spellbound with music, dance and laughter!
